What are marketing, utility, and authentication messages?
The three template categories Meta prices separately. Marketing covers promotions and announcements, utility covers transactional updates like order confirmations, and authentication covers one-time passcodes. Meta assigns the category when it approves your template.
Are replies to customers free?
Yes. When a customer messages you, a 24-hour service window opens, and regular replies inside it are free from Meta. Utility templates sent inside that window are free too. Marketing and authentication templates are charged wherever they are sent.
When am I actually charged?
Per message, only when a template message is delivered. Since July 2025, Meta prices per delivered message by category and by the recipient’s country.
Do these rates change?
Meta can update rates at the start of a quarter. The rates here are from Meta's official rate card effective July 1, 2026, checked July 10, 2026, and Meta has announced an update for October 1, 2026. Always confirm against Meta's published rate card.
